Diaspo's mission was to unlock the cooking knowledge sitting with older adults, but two accelerator programmes had ended without a shipped product, and their users were retired chefs who needed digital tools to feel natural on day one. We led research with older adults and shipped over ten products across a marketplace, automated booking flow and storefront, winning partnerships with Spotify, Amazon and Accenture.

  • Diaspo had a clear mission: unlock the cooking knowledge sitting with older adults and give it an audience. After incubator and accelerator programmes with strong validation and no shipped product, they brought us in as their full product team. Their users were experienced home cooks who had spent decades perfecting recipes, so the platform had to feel natural to them on day one, clear enough that a retired chef never thought twice about uploading a class.

  • The Process

    Everything started with the people Diaspo was building for. Before any wireframes, we ran research sessions with older adults to learn how they navigated digital tools and what made them feel confident, and turned that into design guidelines every later decision was measured against. The first build was a live class marketplace where cooks list classes, set schedules and get paid. When corporate clients wanted team-building during the pandemic, we built a fully automated booking flow that handled payment, the Zoom link and the recipe afterward, which won partnerships with Spotify, Amazon and Accenture. As cooks wanted to start selling food as well as teaching it, we built a storefront tool on top of Shopify that let any cook set up shop in minutes.

    Diaspo launched more than 10 products and features, with over 10,000 recipes learned through the platform and more than 50 older adults supported as instructors and creators. A single marketplace became a suite of tools serving home cooks at every stage, from teaching a first class to running a food business online, with the range to keep expanding.
