Are you passionate about no-code and empowering the next generation of entrepreneurs? Or maybe you're an aspiring founder with a killer app idea but lack the technical know-how? Perhaps you're simply curious about Bubble's exciting Immerse Program.

In this blog post, I'll be sharing my firsthand experience mentoring founders through Bubble's Immerse program.  This intensive accelerator targets underrepresented founders, equipping them with the skills and guidance to build fully functional apps in just 8-10 weeks.

Discover the rewards and challenges of being a Bubble Immerse Product Mentor, along with valuable insights into the program's impact on both mentors and mentees. You'll also gain a glimpse into the learnings and growth experienced by the founders I had the privilege of supporting.

Learnings From My Mentee

I mentored Princess Agina, an Oxford student, creating ConnectU to match university students with alumni.

We had regular weekly check in holding her accountable, giving product support and helping her prepare for her pitch.

I asked Princess what she found most helpful from our sessions. Here’s what she said:

1. How to gain traction

While I immersed myself in countless Y-Combinator videos and discussions to learn how to snag the first customer, your straightforward "just do it" strategy stood out the most. You demystified the process for me with a simple roadmap: email 50 people weekly-->aim for calls with at least 10-->progress to contract discussions with at least 2--> and aim to secure a signed contract with at least 1. This clarity was a game-changer!

2. Creating SMART Metrics

While very familiar with the concept, I struggled to gauge the right level of ambition in my goals (i.e. I had a huge issue with understanding what was too ambitious vs. what wasn't ambitious enough). Your perspective helped strike the balance, setting realistic yet challenging targets. It made me pursue my goals with so much more confidence. Also, having someone to keep me accountable has been transformative.

3. Focusing on intuitive UI/UX

I can get very distracted by the possibilities of what my platform could be. Your reminders to stay rooted in the user's perspective saved me from being sidetracked by myriad possibilities. Instead of building what I deemed cool, your guidance focused my efforts on what truly enhances the user experience and made me just cut the extraness.

4. Drawing inspiration from experts

Building from the UX discussions (and honestly, all the points above), you encouraged me to draw inspiration from platforms I admire. Rather than reinventing the wheel, I learned to adapt from the best, ensuring that I prioritize user experience, reach my SMART goals, and gain traction efficiently and quickly versus letting my imagination run so wild that it slows down my progress. So, essentially, honing in on creativity + efficiency + doing what we know works/what people like already.

My Learnings Mentoring

The beauty of being a mentor is not just the feeling of giving back, but also how much you learn, how much you realise you don’t know and how many more interesting areas there are.

Here are my 3 main takeaways from being a mentor:

  1. The importance of starting niche: when you start developing a product, particularly with no code, it’s easy to add one feature then another then another. Very quickly, the product becomes an elaborate version with all the bells and whistles. Instead, it requires real discipline to hone in on the problem you’re solving. You can then iterate based on customer feedback, because the feedback will be more focused, enabling you to get to product market fit quicker. The purpose is to create a minimum lovable product

  2. Iterating to customer feedback: the benefit of building with no code is that you can build quickly. Meaning you can get customer feedback, and quickly design and develop features that address that. At the early stage of building a business, that is the most important thing.

  3. Traction is everything: the other side of building with no code is that you can get lost in building, and forget what’s actually important. The most important thing is the users, demonstrating traction, demonstrating someone actually wants to use and pay for your product. Being a mentor reminded me that people can get lost in product building and need to stay focused on what’s truly important.

Overall, being a Bubble product mentor was an incredibly rewarding experience and one I wish to continue to do in the future.
